S, Week's Favorite, Smile
S: would you believe more SNOW??!! Nasty and sleety out there all day today, hopefully winter's last gasp. I've heard this type of pellety snow called 'graupel.'
WEEK'S FAVORITE: Two hummers at once fueling up before the weather gets worse. They're pretty territorial and usually don't share the feeder.
SMILE: this one speaks for itself :)
Lorenzo is three months old!

R, Week's Favorite, Texture
R: ROBIN on the front porch. She nests there every spring, and lives the rest of the time in the yard.
WEEK'S FAVORITE: Two guys, sound asleep.
TEXTURE: We awakened after a little overnight snow flurry earlier this week, and saw that it had highlighted some nice TEXTURE on the roof before it quickly melted away.

Q, Week's Favorite, At Rest
Q: I am a QUILTMAKER. The process of quiltmaking involves several different steps, and here is one of them: the long-arm quilting machine I use at the shop to stitch together layers of
fabric and batting.
WEEK'S FAVORITE: Spring continues to make progress. The daffodils are done now, and browning down, and the grape hyacinths are blooming all over the valley. I love this vivid periwinkle-purple color!
AT REST: With ski season done, and the resorts closed, the ski lifts are AT REST until next fall.
(Click to enlarge and better see them all lined up)
This picture includes Bear Mountain on the left, elevation 8805 feet at the top of the run, and Silver Mountain on the right, elevation 8550 at the top.
Snow is disappearing fast from the slopes!
This picture is Snow Summit, elevation 8174 feet at the top of the peak.

P, Week's Favorite, In Motion
P: PRAYER FLAGS: A prayer flag is a colorful rectangular cloth, often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas. (And in my yard!) They are used to bless the surrounding countryside, and to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, it is believed that the prayers and mantras they represent will be blown by the wind to spread good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all living beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags, which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air touching them is purified and sanctified. The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe, although the images printed on the flag fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life's changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle.
I am not Buddhist, but this is such a wonderful and simple thing to do -- we are sending good vibes from our home out into the universe, and I smile every time I see my flags fluttering! Why not hang some in your yard too, and increase the positive energy in our world?
We Earthlings need all the help we can get!!!!

WEEK'S FAVORITE: Garage sale season is just getting started. Yesterday we found this funny little rocker for Lorenzo, to go with the rest of the rocking chairs out on the front porch. Yes, we do a lot of sitting here, retirement is a Good Thing :) Next month we'll clean all the furniture and put the cushions out.

IN MOTION: the lake is bright and sparkling -- lapping and waving and rippling in the breeze.

O, Week's Favorite, Spring
O: ONIONS at the Farmers Market, which opened on Tuesday for the first time this season!
WEEK'S FAVORITE: My other daughter-in-law
(not Lorenzo's Mommy)
Is she awesome or what??!!
Both of my sons made wonderful choices!
SPRING: the blooming trees are getting started, but we are having April Showers this week, so the blossoms may get knocked off before they get pollinated.
(But we love and need the rain!!)
These blossoms on the cherry tree remind me of popcorn!

N, Week's Favorite, Vintage
N: I'm going to go with NUTHATCH for letter N this week. These cute little guys are in the yard constantly. They are usually scooting upside down on tree trunks.
WEEK'S FAVORITE: Grandpa and Grandma took a trip down to Long Beach this week to see Lorenzo. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive, and the difference between our home in the mountains and life at the beach couldn't be more different -- pine trees vs. palm trees! We lived down there for 25 years, and love the change of seasons up here at the high altitude. That's the Queen Mary on the far right edge of the water. We're about six blocks from Lorenzo's house here, out for a stroll after lunch.
(Ha, fooled you! You thought my Week's Favorite would be a picture of Enzo yet AGAIN.)
VINTAGE: One of my collection of vintage/antique sewing machines. My occupation is "quiltmaker" ... which I enjoy, among other reasons, because it is a connection to the past. So I have ***a lot*** of vintage and antique sewing tools and supplies
and old quilts.

K, Flower, Week's Favorite
K: K-Mart is the hub of our shopping experience
here in Big Bear. We also have groceries, pharmacy, and hardware, and a few small local businesses ... but beyond that, one goes "down the hill" for shopping, which is 60+ miles each way down the mountain and back up. Sort of a once-a-month thing.
Needless to say, mail order is a way of life here!
FLOWER: My daffs and tulips are working hard to come up and open. I have one daffodil that is actually blooming this afternoon, but we're supposed to get 6 - 8" of snow tonight, so it will probably be a goner by tomorrow. There are lots more sprouts and buds out there though, so next week should be better.
Saturday morning: well, we only got about 4 " of snow, and it's melting fast, so this perky little daffodil did OK!
WEEK'S FAVORITE: Winter sunset down the lake.

J, Cuppa, Week's Favorite
My very special "J" is Jake, our Jack Russell terrier. He's the dearest little dog, full of enthusiasm and affection.
Jake looks a LOT like his master, my husband :)
For my "CUPPA" picture, I kind of forgot to capture anything earlier in the week ... so here's the CUPPA wine I had with tonight's dinner :)
And for my WEEK'S FAVORITE, here's a picture of grandson Enzo who is growing daily!
(Pictures of Enzo are ALWAYS my favorite!!)
Life is good!!!
