P, Week's Favorite, In Motion

P: PRAYER FLAGS:   A prayer flag is a colorful rectangular cloth, often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas.  (And in my yard!) They are used to bless the surrounding countryside, and to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, it is believed that the prayers and mantras they represent will be blown by the wind to spread good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all living beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags, which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air touching them is purified and sanctified.  The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe, although the images printed on the flag fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life's changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle.

I am not Buddhist, but this is such a wonderful and simple thing to do -- we are sending good vibes from our home out into the universe, and I smile every time I see my flags fluttering!  Why not hang some in your yard too, and increase the positive energy in our world?
We Earthlings need all the help we can get!!!!

WEEK'S FAVORITE:  Garage sale season is just getting started.  Yesterday we found this funny little rocker for Lorenzo, to go with the rest of the rocking chairs out on the front porch.  Yes, we do a lot of sitting here, retirement is a Good Thing :)  Next month we'll clean all the furniture and put the cushions out.

IN MOTION: the lake is bright and sparkling --  lapping and waving and rippling in the breeze.

Jeanne, I love your "funny little rocker for Lorenzo." It would go good on our front or back porch. Looks in really good shape. We have a full sized version that we got from Walmart. If your prayer squares would scare the rabbits out of our backyard I'd fly some.
My San Jacinto College is in Pasadena, Texas, with two campuses also in Houston. My youngest grandson's FIL owns the Ford dealership in Palm Springs. Still fairly close then to Big Bear Lake. :)

I love your prayer flags and the story of their history. What a wonderful thing! The rocker is adorable. I'm sure he will enjoy sitting out there with you. Beautiful motion on the lake. Thanks so much for joining Friday's Hunt. I do hope you have a good week.
